Expected starting Date: as soon as possible Region: Sub Saharan Africa Country: Uganda Location: Gulu Duration: 6/12 months, renewable Reports to: Executive Committee Good Samaritan Onlus and its consultant staff Good Samaritan ONLUS - It is a No-Profit Organization - Onlus (L. 266/91 art. 10 c. 8 D.Lgs. 460/97) born in 1999. Good Samaritan implements projects benefiting Acholi people (Northern Uganda) in collaboration with the Ugandan NGO "Comboni Samaritans of Gulu" and the "Wawoto Kacel Cooperative ltd". At the beginning, the Association, created with the aim to fight against the diffusion of HIV/AIDS, choose to privilege projects for orphans and children of people living with HIV/AIDS in order to guarantee the fundamental right to education. Now Good Samaritan has different programs: -Health Program in collaboration with the St. Mary's Hospital Lacor of Gulu (home base care for PLWHA, Pre and Post-Testing, access to health services and antiretroviral treatments, psychological support and micro-finance project for clients); -Education Program (sponsorships and psychological support for orphans and "child headed families"); -Youth Program (prevention and awareness against the spread of AIDS among the youths, peace building and reconciliation activities for the community); -Economic Program (economical and technical support to "Wawoto Kacel" Cooperative, microfinance project for disadvantaged people). Local partners COMBONI SAMARITANS OF GULU: It is a local Non Governmental Organization founded in 1992 by two Comboni Missionaries. It was created in response to the AIDS epidemic and its dramatic impact in the community. Nowadays it has 4 departments (Health, Youth, Education and Administration) and a staff of 70 employees that reach more than 10.000 beneficiaries. WAWOTO KACEL COOPERATIVE: It was founded by Comboni Samaritans of Gulu and Good Samaritan Onlus and it became an independent organization in 2004. Nowadays it assures work to 150 disadvantage people (sick people, disables, IDPs, etc) and it is formed by 6 sectors of production (tailoring, weaving, tie and dye, embroidery, beads and wishing cards). It exports to Italy in collaboration with the Fair Trade. The current position refers to the work undertaken by Good Samaritan with its implementing partner Wawoto Kacel Cooperative. The support provided by Good Samaritan to the Cooperative has focused to date on financial components, with some attention to the technical aspects of the products too. Since October 2008, in the frame work of a project named Fondazioni4Africa, the process of development and capacity building of the Cooperative has been fostered. This process is meant to promote the development of tools and procedures of the organizational and production systems and of the commercialization of the products, with the long term view of improving the level of sustainability of the Cooperative. Within this new phase, Good Samaritan is currently looking for an expatriate coordinator that would support this process in liaison with the Management Group of the Cooperative, the consultancy group of Good Samaritan Onlus, that is located in Italy but undertakes frequent missions on the field and the expatriate Project Manager of Fondazioni4Africa. Good Samaritan is looking for a qualified, self motivated and highly committed person to fill the position of: -Position: Capacity building coordinator (in economic and production activities) -Duty Station: Gulu, Northern Uganda Position Profile The staff will be requested to: 1. In cooperation with the Manager, the consultancy group of Good Samaritan and the expatriate Project Manager of Fondazioni4Africa, support the mainstreaming and implementation of the new administrative and financial procedures. 2. In cooperation with the Manager, the consultancy group of Good Samaritan and the expatriate Project Manager of Fondazioni4Africa, supervise regularly the correct and comprehensive implementation of the established procedures. 3. In coordination with the accountant and the Manager, supervise the correctness of the financial documents and reports to be submitted to the donors. 4. Supervise the proper and regular compilation of the tool of inventory, sales and orders. 5. Support the Manager and the concerned staff in guiding and supervising all the phases of the production cycle (production, purchase of row material, stock, sales procedures, etc.). 6. Support the Manager in following and managing the national and international orders, submitted online or through other means. 7. Compile monthly reports to the donors on the status of the activities and the general aspects of the Cooperative functions. 8. In coordination with possible Project Managers, contribute to the proper implementation of the activities foreseen within specific projects funded by external donors. Interested applicants should have the following qualifications and experience. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES A. Professional background -A degree in business and economic disciplines -Post graduate training in Marketing or sales Management is an asset -Previous experience in management projects (at least 2 years) -Experience in supervision -Proven experience in financial management and administration -Previous experiences in dealing with accountancy functions and marketing aspects -Previous experience in Uganda or other African countries is an asset. B. Essential skills -Excellent planning, organizational and supervisory skills -Proficiency in Microsoft word suit (word, excel, access, pastel ...) -Understanding of markets dynamics and aspects of profit Organizations -Ability to work with multiple partners, donors and other stakeholders -Creative problem solving skills with ability to work effectively in resource constrained environment -Fluent in written and spoken English C. Personal Qualities -Innovative and with proven ability of problem solving -Highly motivated and with a desire to work with vulnerable individuals -Able to work under pressure, under minimum supervision and able to meet deadlines -He /she should have good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Conditions The salary offered is 2.000,00 euro per month. International flights are available as benefit.
